Supplier Day Pasir Gudang
sustainability
October 05, 2018

In light of our commitment towards stakeholder collaboration Bunge Loders Croklaan (BLC) engaged its key suppliers during a network event at our refinery in Pasir Gudang.

The goal of the event was to inform and demonstrate how we add value to the raw materials derived from CPO and CPKO in line with our Sustainability (NDPE) and Traceability commitments.

After an introduction to BLC, participants were invited for a tour of the Pasir Gudang production complex and state of art “Creative Studio”. The refinery tour demonstrated how PO and CPKO are processed into products for various applications in confectionery, bakery, culinary, and infant nutrition. Examples of end products were available for tasting in our Creative Studio, where the QA manager explained how BLC tailor-makes a variety of specialty fat products upon customer specifications. There was also the possibility to ask questions related to quality aspects and specifications.

The second half of the day, participants were briefed on global market trends and requirements in the palm oil industry. The Tropical Oils sustainability team presented on NDPE (No Deforestation, Peat and Exploitation), market trends, traceability to plantation and spatial monitoring. Suppliers discussed their challenges and shared best practices in order to meet the market requirements.

The feedback of the suppliers was positive and the day was an “eye opener” as it was the first time most of them visited a refinery. There was a common understanding that in order to meet the sustainability (NDPE) and traceability requirements from the market, refiners and suppliers need to work together to continue building a traceable, transparent and sustainable supply chain.
